French Alphabet Sounds
French Alphabet Sounds
This is a crash-course for parents. Our goal is to get you sounding things out in French as soon as possible.
We're starting this process by focusing on the French alphabet. Not letter names, not singing the ABCs...but the sounds they make, since that's what we use when we read.
UNIT 1 focuses on learning letter sounds, and includes some tips to use at home, like remembering i vs e, or how to pronounce the 'u' sound.
UNIT 2 goes through what games and activities to play at home to help your child develop their reading foundation.
UNIT 3 explains 2nd sounds. O represents a different sound in the word 'so' (oh) than in 'dog' (aw). In French, some letters can represent multiple sounds, too! This is an advanced unit, and should only be approached once you know the 1st letter sounds.
BONUS UNIT: Tips to help French pronunciation. We talk about little tweaks you can make to help you sound more French. A lot of this comes down to understanding the main differences between English and French!

FAQ:
What level of student is this course made for?
This course is intended for parents starting from scratch who want to learn to read in French!
Even if your child already knows the alphabet sounds, if they are still working on their reading foundation, this course will help you support them. Often, there are steps missed in the beginning of the foundation, and gaps that get filled by memorization. Learning the alphabet sounds step-by-step (with teaching tips thrown in) will allow you a unique insight into what your child really knows - and what they might be missing.
What makes this course different from other French courses?
Although this course is made for parents, tips for how to work with your child are sprinkled into every lesson. You're not learning French "just because", or to ask for directions to the nearest 'toilette' - you want to be able to help your child with their reading. Because of that, this course focuses on:
1. Getting you the knowledge you need (French alphabetic sounds)
2. Letting you know what to watch out for when helping your child
3. How to get started supporting your child at home
Can my child use this course?
In this course, I directly talk to parents in my videos to be clear on what to focus on at home and what to watch out for when helping your child! This being said, you will learn tips, games and activities that are directly applicable for working WITH your child!
