FRENCH ESSENTIALS P A R E N T B O O T C A M P
There are 3 main hurdles that keep parents from successfully and confidently supporting their child at home in French.
PROBLEM # 1
You don’t speak French. You feel like you could do so much to help your child if you had only taken French when you were younger. You can't help but wonder how things would be different if you could help more at home. |
PROBLEM # 2
You don’t know what to focus on. You have a small pile of flashcards, letter sounds, and books that get sent home from school. They know a flashcard one day, but not the next. You do wonder if all this home practise is really helping. |
PROBLEM # 3
You don't have French resources, and you don't have the time. Duolingo and Youtube have nothing to do with how help your child. You've tried to find out the answers for yourself, but it ended up being a massive waste of time. |
You want to help. You're ready to help.
But if you don't know French, your options are limited.

My name is Nicole Balston, and I’m a teacher and private tutor. I've also been enthusiastically learning French for over 15 years.
Let's go back to the beginning: I was in French Immersion.
And despite being a "smart kid", I struggled with reading.
I tried to hide the fact that reading was hard. Really hard.
I was always a good memorizer, so I could pretend I knew what I was doing, but...reading didn't make sense. I thought there was something wrong with me.
When I learned about the Science of Reading, it changed everything. Did you know that there is only one way our brains learn to read? That we can teach reading directly in a way - the only way - our brains learn?
Everything I teach hinges directly on that premise.
And, guess what? It turns out... Reading does make sense.

Still have questions? I have answers.
WHAT GRADE IS THIS BOOTCAMP TARGETING?
The most common grades is K-3 Early French Immersion, or 6/7 Late French Immersion - but if your child is learning how to read in French, this workshop is for you! Regardless of grade level, if your child is learning how to "sound out" or pronounce words - you're in the right place. MY CHILD HASN'T STARTED FRENCH YET. SHOULD I SIGN UP? Yes! This will allow you to front-load so you'll know what to focus on. This will allow your child to avoid forming bad habits in reading. WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE THE LIVE CALLS? You'll get access to the live event & the recording when you sign up. :-) DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO BE IN FRENCH IMMERSION? Nope! This bootcamp is to support parents in learning the essentials of the French alphabetic code to help their child read in French. If you're looking for colours, numbers, and "bonjour, comment ça va" sentences, this won't be for you. But if you're looking to learn the why and how behind pronouncing words in French, then this bootcamp would be perfect for you! |
I DON'T KNOW ANY FRENCH. IS THIS FOR ME?
Yes! I've created this workshop with you exactly in mind! This is for parents who don't know French, don't know the letter sounds, and don't feel comfortable working in French! I'M ALREADY FLUENT IN FRENCH. WILL I LEARN ANYTHING? This workshop was made to be accessible to parents with no French knowledge. That being said, I include the explanations of the why behind the pronunciation, and how to work with your child. For example: Why is does the "e" sound change
I've had adults who went through French Immersion and even French teachers say this bootcamp pushed them forward in how to teach French reading! I HAVE A DIFFERENT QUESTION. If it's a quick question, send me an email. If it's more involved, please feel free to book a student success call so I can help! |
