Advantages of our Conversation & Games Mini-Program:
- Focus: giving French Immersion students the ability to effectively communicate their ideas
- Targeted practice on "anglicisms", and how to avoid them
- Engaging, game-based sessions that promote language acquisition
- Extra French language exposure in a way that is experienced-based and fun!
When reading or writing in French, students rely on their vocabulary and French oral language skills. Essentially, students write the way they talk. In order to write better, we need to fix the errors they make when speaking. This mini program allows us to focus directly on conversation and developing their ability to express themselves clearly in French.
This also to speak directly about 'anglicisms' - using English words or expressions incorrectly in French - and provide targeted practice to help avoid them.
For example, many students say "j'ai a" (I have has), and use this structure both orally and in their writing. If we can break this habit and replace it with "j'ai" (I have), this correction will translate to their written work as well."
French Immersion programs usually function in English-speaking environments, where their French exposure is limited to their time spent at school. It is wonderful to gain this exposure at school; however, many students need practice with direct feedback to improve their ability to clearly and successfully communicate their ideas. This small-group allows students to speak and collaborate meaningfully, learning from each other, while playing games!
