Why group tutoring?
Since starting teaching in 2015 and private tutoring 10 years ago, I have worked with over 250 children and have made wonderful connections with students and families. Over this time, I have noticed that students make the same types of errors and struggle with the same problems when it comes to learning French.
All students benefit from direct, clear instruction on the reading code. In a group environment, I've seen students ask questions that generated the 'ah-hah' moment for one of their peers. Students learn through guidance by an experienced teacher, but also through their learning community!

Our focused sessions allows us to target key elements in the French language. We leave sight words in the dust and ensure your child develops sound-manipulation skills. Students learn to pay attention to print instead of guessing based on patterns or pictures.
When these skills are taught directly and in a way that builds on their existing knowledge, students soar."
That's the power of having a reading program aligned with how our brains actually learn to read.
Students stop relying on sight words to carry them forward through reading levels. They stop guessing that every word that starts with f is 'fille'. They stop looking at pictures as a crutch to guess what is going on in the story.
Instead, they can recognize sounds within each word - each sound (even if it's 3 letters) is a puzzle piece, and they can take them apart and reassemble them in different ways, giving them access to more and more words.

These students become more interested in reading, because they finally have a method of understanding how the reading code works."
For older students, we work on more nuanced elements of the code. Often more advanced students can read common words correctly, but have difficulty applying their knowledge to unknown words - especially words that they do not have in their oral vocabulary yet. I have worked with students up to grade 9 to solidify their understanding of the French code; and yet, my methodology is simple enough that I can teach these techniques to grade 3 students!
I use a small-step approach so that students come back to topics time and time again to deepen understanding and develop automaticity. Our group programs are small group lessons aimed at closing gaps in your child's learning, refreshing their memory or challenging them to achieve more.
